OA Strategic Plan 2013-2017
From www.oa-bsa.org
Brothers,
It is hard to believe that it has been a month since we left Michigan State University, site of NOAC 2012!
In what seems like yesterday, school has started back, we said our goodbyes to summertime, and football season is already in full swing. We hope you had a safe and adventure-filled summer, your team is off to a great start, and that your school year will be rewarding and fun!
We thank each of you who participated in the National Conference and appreciate your support. Our thoughts now turn to the big opportunity that the OA has to make its mark on the Jamboree at the Bechtel Summit in West Virginia and to all the other high adventure opportunities we have at Philmont, the Northern Tier Wilderness, and at the Florida Sea Base. We hope to see you at one (or more) of these exciting OA destinations, next summer.
During NOAC, we rolled the strategic plan out at the National Council of Chiefs meeting. Please follow the hyper link provided in order to access the OA’s strategic plan. From this point on, we need YOU to take ownership of it and work with your council and lodge leadership to find ways to implement its guidelines back home. We strongly encourage lodges to take the initiative in structuring their own plan with your own council.
Nationally, we will continue to develop more and more tools for lodges, chapters, and units, so that your OA life will be easier. Please let us know how to best help YOUR program. A link to the new tools we unveiled at NOAC for Units, Chapters, and Lodges is available in this announcement made at NOAC.
In addition to picking up this toolkit and using it to fine tune your program, working with your council to develop an effective operating plan for your youth membership, also, please work to send in your ideas for things that your unit, chapter, or lodge do very well. Our “best practices” page is full of ideas that others in the program have used and tested which work well for them. Spend time looking at some of them and please submit your own. Every chapter and lodge does something very very well and could benefit from some fresh thinking on other ideas… check these out!
Thanks for all you do to deliver the program to the Arrowmen who are counting on you as their leader; it will make a difference in their lives…”as we, together, said so eloquently this summer- United, we will leave a legacy.”
In Brotherhood,
Preston, John, and Ray
